WIOA On-The-Job-Training (OJT)

*For ages 16 and older who meet eligibility criteria.

  • Businesses who are interested need to fill out a brief application.

  • NYS Department of Labor will conduct a diligence review.

  • Trainees are hired onto the business’ payroll at the start of their OJT.

  • Businesses will be reimbursed 50% of the trainees wages through the WIOA program for the duration of the OJT. (The programs last anywhere from 12-26 weeks , depending on needs and guidelines).

  • Trainees must be paid at a starting wage of 35% more than NYS minimum wage.

Transitional Jobs

  •  St. Lawrence County will be the employer of record, and pay 100% of the cost of participant wages directly to the participant (including fringes) during the agreement periods (5-8 weeks) using WIOA grant funds and/or NYSCION/OMH funds.

  •  The Transitional Jobs participant will be covered under St. Lawrence county’s Workman’s Comp.

  • The position must pay at least the New York State minimum wage and no more than the local area self-sufficiency rate (currently at $22.57/hour).

*Occupations adding commission, tips, bonuses, etc. to supplement a salary below the minimum wage will not be eligible for Transitional Jobs

  • · The Transitional Jobs positions should ideally provide full-time opportunities, with full-time defined as a minimum of 30 hours paid work a week.

  • There is no requirement that the business retains the participant upon completion of the Transitional Jobs agreement period, however retention, where appropriate, is preferred for the benefit of the participant and the business.

WIOA Youth Paid Internship

*Youth aged 16-24 who meet criteria are eligible to be an intern.

  • An intern whose skill level and interest matches the needs of an employer is placed at a host work site to learn job skills and gain work experience.

  • The participating youth is paid through the SLC payroll and is placed on SLC’s workman’s comp through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Program.

  • The intern will earn NYS minimum wage and can work up to 35 hours a week.

  • The intern is directly supervised by staff designated by the host worksite.

  • WIOA staff will monitor the program and provide assistance where needed.

*Please note that staff must be available to supervise the youth intern, labor unions (where applicable) must approve the internship and youth interns may not replace workers laid off from the worksite.
